We are students from KDU -USM Mass communications degree majoring in Persuasive Communciation. Our project is supported by the Penang State Government and we are also advised by Dr.Foong Swee Yeok, a mangrove and coastal forest ecologist from USM. The Green War campaign is our final year year project which requires us to carry out a social campaign. The Green War is geared at raising awareness on the need to fight for the environment through our mangrove planting initiative in Balik Pulau, Penang. We are collaborating with PIFWA( Penang Inshore Fisherman Welfare Association) . Through our campaign we aim to create awareness and a positive attitude among Penangites to save the environment in easy steps , this is achieved though our public outreach to schools and public areas. Through our school outeach and public areas we will educate the students and the puublic on the importance of mangroves and the vital role of mangroves in the ecosystem. We are aiming to plant close to 500 seedlings or more if we can get more Avicennia Seedlings. The details of the Mangrove Planting Day are as follows, Date : 4th December 2011 Day: Sunday Time: 8.30am- 2.00pm We would be very grateful and happy if you can lend us your support and be part of our mangrove planting day! To adopt a tree is RM 10, and the mangrove planting package is Rm 20 inclusive of a t shirt, reusable bag and rubber shoes. I would like to emphasize that this campaign is non profit and all extra money from sponsors and donations from the public goes to planting more mangroves in Penang.
